In 2017, the Commercial Club of Chicago created the Neighborhood Jobs Connection Initiative to help address one of the city’s most critical issues – access to jobs. Currently, in Chicago, there are 160,000 Chicagoans looking for jobs. One third of these residents live in just eleven of Chicago’s 77 communities.
In these communities, most people are working and residents along with community organizations are active every day to sustain the vitality of their neighborhoods. But lack of access to jobs and other barriers to employment make it difficult for the communities to thrive. Engagement from the larger Chicago community is needed.
The goal of the Neighborhood Jobs Connection Initiative is to facilitate connections between companies and people looking for jobs from disconnected communities, utilize untapped pools of talent, and increase access to jobs.
